Summer Communication is Key

We have seen firsthand the impact that communication between parents and camp staff can have – it gives an overall positive experience for everyone, campers to staff to parents. We understand that you, the parents, are sending your child off to camp for a week of fun and adventure, all while entrusting us with your child’s safety and well-being. That’s why it’s so important for us as camp staff to keep parents informed and involved in their child’s camp experience, from pre-camp preparation to wrapping up the week. In general, you should receive four main messages from Camp Thurman about your week.

Here’s all of it broken down:

The Week Before

  • Tuesday – a general info email from our Registrar
  • Wednesday – a phone call to new parents from your camper’s counselor

The Week Of

  • Wednesday – an instructional email to access photos
  • Thursday – a wrap-up email from your counselor

Starting the week before your camper is set to come to camp, you will receive two messages. On Tuesday, you will get an email from our Registration Team giving you all the basic info; who your camper’s counselor is, how much money is in their snack account, etc. We know you want more than just general info, but please don’t reply to that email.

On Wednesday (the next day), you will receive a phone call from your camper’s counselor. They are there to answer all of your questions, and address any concerns that you may have about the upcoming week.

If everything is all good, and your camper’s week is going off without a hitch, then you won’t hear from us again until the Wednesday of your camper’s actual week. On that day, you will get another email with a link and instructions to access photos of your camper. If you have trouble with anything photo related, please click the link here. Our counselors do not have the access to photos, and they will refer you to this page.

Finally, on Thursday of your camper’s week, you will receive one last email from your counselor. They will give you wrap-up on what your camper has been up to that week, along with a few other nuggets of insight.

This is the minimum you will here from us. Again, we understand that you are entrusting us with the well-being of your camper. If there is any concern on your part, please feel free to reach out to your counselor first. Our counselors will also do the same. If there is any kind of behavioral issue, we want to partner with you as the parent to tackle those situations so that everyone can have the best time at camp!
